College & Career Center

This new section of the Guidance Suite is for students to come during their lunch, study hall or after school. All are welcome to gather information on different colleges/universities. There is a plethora of college information, including handbooks and DVDs. Applications are available for some colleges. There are additional resources, located in the center, such as writing a college essay, financial aid & scholarships and SAT/ACT registration material & practice tests available. Using these research materials will allow students to evaluate all their options in attending either a 4-year college or 2-year college.

With its easy-to-use search engine, students can browse listings of over 3,000 colleges and search regional College Fair and financial aid information.

For those students who are interested in the military, there are Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) review books to prepare you for the examination. There is also information on the different branches of the military.

College Experience

The College Experience Program was created by the Elmwood Park Guidance Department, in collaboration with Bergen Community College.  This program will help select students begin their transition to college.  Students willing to participate in the program must:

  • Be a senior in high school,
  • Have an overall grade point average of a 3.0 or better,
  • Have permission from the High School Guidance Supervisor
  • Have permission of the parent or legal guardian.
If a student wishes to take a language arts class or a math class, a score of 540 or better on the Critical reading section or a 530 or better on the Math section of the SAT, is needed to avoid taking a basic skills course.  These course, like the Middle College Program, are transferable to four year colleges.
